In-Mold Fusion Polycarbonate Shell When the EPS foam is still in the mold (or "mold," which is where the name comes from), it is injected into the thin microshell shell, rather than being molded separately and then glued Get on it. The low-friction shell is designed to slide slightly within the helmet in the event of an accident, keeping the force away from the head. This is said to help reduce the risk of brain injury.
